Former Alberta Main Street President Accused of Stealing $100,000

Devon T. Horace, former president of Alberta Main Street, a Portland nonprofit, has been accused of stealing at least $100,000 from the organization’s operating account. Horace has pleaded not guilty to 16 counts, including aggravated theft, theft, theft by deception, and falsifying business records. The alleged embezzlement occurred over a year and a half, with Horace diverting donations from Nike and the Portland Trail Blazers. Board members discovered the discrepancies, and Horace was indicted in March 2023.

Multnomah County Voters to Vote on Flood Protection Bond Measure

The Urban Flood Safety and Water Quality District is requesting Multnomah County voters to approve a property tax increase of 11 cents per $1,000 of assessed property annually over the next 20 years to fund a $150 million bond measure for flood protection improvements. The measure is expected to raise about $7.5 million annually and unlock an additional $100 million in federal funding for the project. The project’s total price tag is estimated to be nearly $300 million, with the remaining balance expected to be provided by Oregon lawmakers. The measure has earned the support of elected leaders, business and environmental groups, and the head of the Port of Portland.

Portland Man Arrested in Deadly December Shooting

Portland police have apprehended 48-year-old Donald L. Burgett II in connection with the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Michael McFadden on December 1. Burgett has been charged with murder and unlawful use of a weapon. The incident occurred near Southeast 148th Avenue and Taggart Street, and although police assert it was not random, they have not revealed any connection between the victim and the suspect. Burgett has a previous conviction for unauthorized use of a vehicle in 2005. As of now, he remains in custody at the Multnomah County Detention Center awaiting arraignment scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
