Mumbai: Phase 2 of Coastal Road to Open by June 10, Repairs Ongoing in Phase 1

The second phase of Mumbai’s ambitious Coastal Road project, connecting Marine Drive to Worli, is set to open to the public on June 10. However, the first phase of the project, inaugurated in March 2023, has encountered a leakage issue. The leakages are being addressed through polymer grouting, which will be implemented on all 25 joints on both sides of the tunnel to prevent further water seepage.

Mumbai Coastal Road Tunnel Lacks Mobile Connectivity and Emergency Access

The recently opened southbound coastal road tunnel in Mumbai has raised concerns as it lacks seamless mobile connectivity and emergency services, posing challenges to motorists and maintenance personnel. The telecom department has highlighted these issues and requested the BMC commissioner to expedite the installation of antennas inside the tunnel to address the communication gaps. The Mumbai Coastal Road project is expected to be completed by June, with 87% of the work done so far.
