Retired Torrent Employee Conned of Rs 41 Lakh by Scammers Impersonating Mumbai Police and Former Maharashtra Minister

A 58-year-old retired employee of Torrent Power, Shrenik Vaishnav, fell victim to an elaborate scam where cybercriminals impersonating Mumbai police and former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik defrauded him of Rs 41 lakh. The scammers posed as ‘Pradip Sawant of Mumbai police cybercrime cell’ and fabricated accusations of money laundering, threatening to arrest Vaishnav if he did not cooperate. They instructed him to transfer all his money into a bank account for ‘verification’ and forced him to sell his shares and deposit the proceeds into another account. The scam came to light after Vaishnav paid the hefty sum and the scammers disconnected all communication, prompting him to file a complaint with the cybercrime helpline. The cybercrime police have registered a complaint under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including extortion, breach of trust, and impersonation of a public servant.

Traffic Cop Assaulted, Loses Tooth in Mumbai Police Station

A traffic constable in Mumbai’s Nalasopara (East) suffered a lost tooth and other injuries after being allegedly slapped by a man inside the Tulinj police station. The incident occurred on Monday when the constable, Praveen Ranade, objected to the man, Shailesh Waghela, recording a video of him while on duty. Police have booked Waghela for assault and other charges. The motive behind his actions remains unclear.

Second Gun Recovered from Tapi River in Salman Khan Firing Case; Watertight Case Against Bishnoi Stronger

The Mumbai crime branch has recovered the second gun used in the firing on actor Salman Khan’s house on April 14, along with 17 bullets, from the Tapi river in Surat. The first gun was found in the river earlier on Monday. The recovery of both weapons, with the help of Dubai-based Envitech Marine Consultants, will strengthen the case against jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is alleged to have ordered the firing. The police have also established the chain of events and the sequence of crime to show that Lawrence and his Canada-based brother Anmol Bishnoi, who supplied 35 bullets for the attack, are wanted accused in the case.

Mumbai Police Retrieve Firearms from Tapi River in Ongoing Firing Incident Investigation

The Mumbai police’s crime branch has made significant progress in its ongoing operation to recover firearms linked to the firing incident outside a residence. During search efforts in Gujarat’s Tapi River, authorities discovered two pistols, three magazines, and 13 bullets on April 23rd. The investigation is being led by a dedicated team including senior police inspector Daya Nayak, known as the “encounter specialist,” with the assistance of scuba divers.

Suspected Plot to Assassinate Salman Khan Foiled by Mumbai Police

Mumbai Police have apprehended two suspects, Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, in connection with a planned assassination attempt on Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The suspects had allegedly planned to attack Khan during Eid celebrations at his Panvel farmhouse. However, the plan was thwarted as the farmhouse celebration was canceled. The suspects conducted reconnaissance outside the farmhouse and rented a house nearby. They were also seen surveilling Khan’s residence in Mumbai. Police believe the suspects were part of the Bishnoi gang and received information from the gang members. The suspects disposed of the weapon in the Tapi River in Gujarat, but it has not yet been recovered.
