Spotify’s Second iOS App Update Attempt in EU Fails to Pass App Store Review

Spotify’s latest iOS app update, version 8.9.33, has been rejected by Apple’s App Store review team due to non-compliance with the new Music Streaming Services Entitlement (EEA) for the European Economic Area. This entitlement requires streaming services to use external links, buttons, or other calls to action to direct users to a purchase mechanism on a website owned or controlled by the developer instead of using Apple’s In-App Purchase mechanism. Spotify must accept the terms of this entitlement and include the entitlement profile in its app for submission before it can be approved for release in the App Store. Apple has made a number of changes to its App Store rules, primarily to comply with EU legislation like the Digital Markets Act, and developers must follow specific guidelines to perform certain actions. The Music Streaming Services Entitlement is part of these efforts to provide more flexibility for streaming services in the European Economic Area.
