Nagpur Schools and Colleges Closed Due to Heavy Rains and Flood Risk

Nagpur District Collector has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Monday, July 22, following an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The closure aims to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst flooding concerns and hazardous travel conditions. The IMD also warned of moderate flash floods in several districts, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

Director and Manager of Nagpur Explosives Factory Arrested After Deadly Blast

In a tragic incident, six individuals lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries in an explosion that occurred at an explosives manufacturing facility in Nagpur. The police have apprehended the director and manager of the factory, Jay Khemka and Sagar Deshmukh, respectively. The incident took place at Chamundi Explosives Pvt Ltd, located in Dhamna village, approximately 25 kilometers from Nagpur city. Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the explosion, and the arrested individuals are facing charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances and causing death or grievous hurt due to rash or negligent acts.

IndiGo Connects North Goa, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with New Flight Routes

IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has announced the launch of new flight routes connecting North Goa, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly known as Aurangabad). These new routes are set to boost regional tourism and enhance connectivity within the region. Starting from July 2, 2024, the new flights will provide direct connectivity between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and North Goa, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur, and also facilitate travel between Nagpur and North Goa with a stopover at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. These flights are scheduled to operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Speeding Car Injures Woman, Child, and Person in Nagpur

Three individuals, including a child, sustained injuries when a speeding car struck them in Nagpur’s Zenda Chowk area. The incident occurred on Friday evening, and the injured were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police swiftly apprehended three people, including the driver responsible for the reckless driving. Further investigations revealed the presence of liquor bottles and narcotics within the vehicle. As per the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gorakh Bhamre, a case is being registered and medical tests are being administered to determine the intoxication levels of the accused. In a separate but equally tragic incident that occurred on May 19th, a young boy driving a Porsche fatally struck two IT professionals riding a bike. The deceased victims hailed from Madhya Pradesh and were identified as Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia. Authorities continue to urge drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and maintain responsible driving practices to prevent such incidents in the future.

Nagpur Shivers as Maximum Temperature Drops to 33 Degrees Celsius, Trees Uprooted

Unusually cold weather returned to Nagpur on Monday, bringing with it gusts of wind and rain that caused a significant drop in temperature. At 33 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature was a sharp 8.3 degrees below normal, marking the second such occurrence in the past 15 days after a similar drop on April 7th. Gondia recorded the lowest maximum temperature in Maharashtra at 26 degrees Celsius, even surpassing the hill station of Mahabaleshwar. While the eastern part of Vidarbha experienced low temperatures, the western part, including Washim, sizzled at 42.2 degrees Celsius. Several districts in Vidarbha received rainfall, with Gondia recording 10mm, Nagpur 3mm, and Amravati 1mm. Thunderstorms and gusty winds were also reported in isolated areas, resulting in felled trees and power outages. Firefighters responded to multiple calls related to tree felling, but no injuries were reported.
