Congress candidate S. Supongmeren Jamir has emerged victorious in the Nagaland Lok Sabha election, marking a significant resurgence for the party in the state. Despite the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s dominance in the Nagaland Assembly, Jamir secured the lone Lok Sabha seat by defeating Chumben Murry of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) by a margin of over 50,000 votes. This victory comes after a period of decline for the Congress in Nagaland, which has been ruled by the NDPP and its predecessor, the Naga People’s Front (NPF), since 2003.
