India, China Seek Normalization of Ties Amidst Taiwan’s Greetings

India’s MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed gratitude for China’s congratulatory message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his election victory. Jaiswal stated that India will continue efforts towards normalizing ties based on mutual respect, interest, and sensitivity. Notably, Taiwan’s message prompted a response from China reiterating its stance on Taiwan’s status. Despite this, Modi thanked Taiwan’s Chingte Lai for his message and expressed a desire for closer ties, sparking a response from China’s embassy in India. Amidst these exchanges, Taiwan’s Foreign Minister criticized China’s reaction as unwarranted.
