Eric Dejaeger, a former Catholic priest who previously served time for 32 sexual abuse convictions in Nunavut, has been granted bail to a supervised facility in Ontario while awaiting trial on eight new historical sexual assault charges. The charges stem from Dejaeger’s time as a priest in Igloolik between 1978 and 1982. Dejaeger’s bail conditions include residing at a community-based correctional center in Kingston, Ontario, with 24-hour supervision, and restrictions on traveling to Nunavut, visiting public parks or swimming areas, and obtaining a passport. Dejaeger was sentenced to 19 years in prison in 2015 but was released on parole in May 2022 to serve the remainder of his sentence in the community. His next court date is June 10 to confirm his trial date.
Danny Paul Eyaituk, 38, from Sanikiluaq, Nunavut, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Annie Tracy Oqaituq, 36. Eyaituk’s arrest follows an investigation by the RCMP’s major crime unit, forensic identification section, and Sanikiluaq RCMP detachment. He is scheduled to appear in court in Iqaluit on Tuesday.
