Port of Oakland Countersues San Francisco Over Airport Name Change

In response to a lawsuit filed by San Francisco, the Port of Oakland has filed a countersuit, seeking a declaratory judgment that its proposed name change to “San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport” does not infringe upon San Francisco’s trademark on its airport name. The Port argues that the new name will not confuse consumers, as travelers booking flights to the region will understand that the San Francisco Bay Area can accommodate multiple airports. The Port is not seeking financial compensation or damages in its filing.
