The Kansas City Royals have released infielder Mike Brosseau from his minor league contract after a disappointing start to the season. Brosseau, 30, hit just .156 in 12 spring training games and .107 in 33 plate appearances with Triple-A Omaha. Despite his recent struggles, Brosseau has a solid track record in the majors, particularly against left-handed pitching. He could still find another minor league deal elsewhere.
The Indianapolis Indians defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers 7-4, while the Altoona Curve fell to the Akron RubberDucks 8-7. The Greensboro Grasshoppers blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning to lose 6-5 to the Greenville Drive, and the Bradenton Marauders lost 5-3 to the Clearwater Threshers.
Pittsburgh Pirates’ top prospect, Paul Skenes, saw his remarkable scoreless inning streak snapped at 14.1 innings during Indianapolis’ 7-4 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers. In the bottom of the second, Nate Eaton of Omaha broke the streak with an RBI single. Despite the run, Skenes, the top pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, had a solid outing, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up one earned run on five hits and striking out seven. In his five starts, Skenes has allowed only 10 hits and struck out 34 batters, maintaining an impressive 0.53 ERA.
