Oregon’s 2024 Primary Election: Voter Registration Deadline Approaches

Oregon’s 2024 Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, May 21st, and state residents have less than two months to register to vote, change their party affiliation, or update their voter registration information. The deadline to register is April 30th, after which any changes made will not take effect in time for the primary election. Although Oregon has made significant efforts to simplify voting, such as implementing all-mail ballots and automatic voter registration through the DMV, it does not allow same-day voter registration. This means that voters must register at least 21 days before an election to receive a ballot. Registration can be completed online through the Oregon Secretary of State’s website, where applicants must provide their name, date of birth, Oregon DMV number, and the address where they want to receive their ballot. Those who do not have a state license or ID can still fill out a registration form online and return it in person to a county elections office. Once registered, voters can check their registration status or update their information through the My Vote tool online.
