The Priory Group, one of the UK’s largest private mental health care providers, is facing scrutiny after the death of a fifth patient at its Cheadle Royal Hospital. Amina Ismail, 20, died in September 2023, a year after three other young women died at the same unit. The new inquest follows the deaths of Beth Matthews, Lauren Bridges, and Deseree Fitzpatrick. Richard Caseby, whose son Matthew died after escaping from a Priory hospital in 2020, has called for a criminal inquiry into the group. Caseby alleges that the Priory is a “fundamentally dangerous company” that “persistently refuses to learn from its mistakes and neglect.”

Families of patients who passed away while waiting for liver transplants are seeking legal action against Dr. J. Steve Bynon, the former transplant surgeon at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Hospital officials have acknowledged irregularities in the organ allocation process, prompting an investigation and the suspension of the hospital’s transplant programs. At least three families have filed for restraining orders to prevent Dr. Bynon from destroying evidence that could be crucial in potential lawsuits. The families allege that the transplant process was unfair and that they were not informed of the investigation or consulted about their experiences.
