The Supreme Court of India has reprimanded the Indian Medical Association (IMA) over allegations of its doctors endorsing “expensive and unnecessary” medicines in the allopathic field. The court observed that “four fingers” were pointing at the IMA as well, given complaints of unethical practices in prescribing medications. The court also expressed concern about FMCG companies misleading consumers with advertisements targeting children, school-going children, and senior citizens. The Patanjali Ayurved case, which prompted the court’s observations, involves allegations of misleading advertisements and a smear campaign against modern medicine.
