Pawan Chamling loses both constituencies, ends 39-year legislative career

Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) supremo Pawan Kumar Chamling, a five-time former Chief Minister, suffered defeat in both Assembly constituencies he contested in the recent elections. Chamling, an eight-time MLA, lost to Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s (SKM) Bhoj Raj Rai in the Poklok Kamrang seat by 3,063 votes. He also lost to SKM’s Raju Basnet in the Namcheybung constituency by 2,256 votes. This marks the first time in 39 years that Chamling will not hold a seat in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly.
