Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reiterated his country’s commitment to peaceful resolution of disputes with China, despite escalating maritime confrontations in the South China Sea. This follows a recent incident where a Philippine navy vessel was damaged during a resupply mission, prompting condemnation from the U.S., Britain, and Canada.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chief cleric of Kashmir and chairman of the separatist group Hurriyat, has reiterated his commitment to fighting for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue. He has also decided to refrain from issuing a boycott call ahead of the upcoming elections in Srinagar, unlike in the past. Farooq believes that the unilateral changes made by the Indian government in 2019, such as the split of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, have further complicated the issue and disenfranchised the people of the region. He said that the people of Kashmir have enough political maturity and wisdom to know what to do in the current situation.
