Penn Hills, like many municipalities, relies on volunteers serving on boards and commissions to make important decisions. However, the zoning hearing board faces challenges due to one member residing outside of Penn Hills, violating local and state regulations. Another board, the library board, has also undergone significant changes with members resigning or reaching expired terms. Despite efforts to fill vacancies, Penn Hills struggles to attract individuals to serve on these volunteer boards, highlighting the need for transparency and a formal application process. The mayor emphasized the importance of valuing volunteerism while addressing concerns about board members’ eligibility and representation.
