The Penn Hills Shade Tree Commission will host an Arbor Day celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 4th in Universal Park. The event will feature a tree planting ceremony, crafts for children, native tree seedling giveaways, and more. The Shade Tree Commission is celebrating the municipality’s fifth year as a Tree City USA, a designation for communities committed to growing and maintaining their tree canopies.
Michael Ernest Buyna, 44, of Beechview, was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the Parkway East in Penn Hills early Saturday morning.

The mayor emphasized the importance of valuing volunteerism while addressing concerns about board members’ eligibility and representation.
