The Karnataka High Court has granted a stay order against the arrest of former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in connection with a Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case. The court has directed Yediyurappa to appear before investigators on June 17, while the coercive proceedings of arrest and detention have been kept on hold. The BJP has alleged a conspiracy by the Congress in the case, which the Congress has denied.
A POCSO court in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district sentenced two brothers to death on Monday for the gruesome gang-rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl. The incident occurred in August last year, when the victim went missing while grazing cattle. Her remains were later found in a brick kiln, sparking outrage and leading to a swift investigation.
Three men have been arrested for threatening to kill the family of a survivor after the survivor’s father complained that they offered the family 15 lakh to withdraw rape charges. The survivor is a college student who was gang-raped in 2019. The accused had earlier been arrested and released on bail. Police have increased patrolling and are monitoring the other accused who are still at large.
