Formula 1 Proposes Expanded Points System and Permanent Stewards

Formula 1 is set to implement a new points system and introduce permanent stewards for greater consistency in decision-making. The revised points system will extend to the top 12 finishers, giving more weight to the midfield battle and providing additional incentive for lower-ranked teams. F1 expert Karun Chandhok has also proposed the use of additional revenue generated from the expanded points system to fund permanent stewards, ensuring greater consistency in penalty decisions.

F1 Set to Vote on New Points Structure for 2025 Season

Formula 1 teams are considering a new points system that would reward drivers finishing as low as 12th place. The current system, which awards points to the top 10 drivers, has been criticized for limiting opportunities for drivers in the middle of the field. The proposed changes would not affect the top seven finishers but would increase the points awarded from eighth to twelfth place.
