A study by The Hindu Data Team found that out of the 76 turncoats (political candidates who switched parties) tracked in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, only 20 emerged victorious. The BJP fielded the most turncoats in Telangana, with 8 candidates, but only 2 won. The Congress fielded 4 turncoats in Punjab, and 2 were successful. Notably, BJP’s Jagadish Shettar and Naveen Jindal, and Congress’s Geetha Shivarajkumar were among the prominent turncoats who contested.
