JNU Student Groups Defy New Protest Ban, Demand Hostel Opening, Safeguarding Democratic Rights

Student organizations across party lines at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have defied a new advisory prohibiting protests near the varsity office. This comes in response to the termination of six contractual workers, the ongoing closure of Barack Hostel, and the university’s suppression of dissenting voices. The JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) has previously held protests outside the Dean of Students (DoS) office over these issues. The JNUSU has condemned the new advisory as a violation of students’ democratic rights, while the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has also criticized the order as an attempt to silence student dissent.
