Supreme Court Halts Opening of Road Outside Punjab CM’s Residence

The Supreme Court has ordered a stay on the opening of a road outside Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence in Chandigarh, citing security concerns raised by the Central and Punjab governments. The road has been closed since the 1980s due to terrorist threats. The apex court has issued a notice to the Union Territory of Chandigarh administration, seeking a response by September 2nd. The road was closed during the height of terrorism in Punjab three decades ago. In April, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed the opening of the road on a trial basis, but the Supreme Court has now put a stop to that plan.
