The legendary Gunstock Amateur Hill Climb will make its return to Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford, New Hampshire, on Wednesday, June 12, as part of the historic Progressive Laconia Motorcycle Week®. Amateur motorcyclists will race to the top of the 70-meter Torger Tokle Ski Jump, thrilling the crowds. The hill climb has been a part of the rally since its early days, originally held unofficially in 1917 and moving to Gunstock in 1938. This year, over 7,000 spectators are expected to witness competitors in various classes, including Micro Mini and Senior, among others. The event will also feature three breaks for a daring motorcycle stunt show by Eastcoastin’ Enterprises.

These penalties include a 30-day vehicle impoundment and a seven-day license suspension for first-time offenses. The province is also increasing fines for these violations, with stunting now carrying a fine of $580 (up from $150) and first-time street racing offenses costing $580 (up from $205). Repeat offenses result in even higher fines.

Churchill Downs (CHDN) reported solid first-quarter 2024 results, surpassing analyst expectations in terms of revenue, EBITDA, and EPS.
The company’s revenue reached $590.9 million, reflecting a 4.4% beat against the estimated $565.9 million. Non-GAAP earnings per share (EPS) came in at $1.13, significantly exceeding the projected $0.83, marking a remarkable 36.8% beat. Strong performance in the racing segment, particularly at the TwinSpires subsidiary, drove these positive results.
Churchill Downs also announced the upcoming opening of The Rose Gaming Resort in September 2024, signaling its continued expansion within the gaming industry. Additional plans for a new site in early 2025 further demonstrate the company’s commitment to growth.
These positive developments, coupled with the completion of the sale of its stake in United Tote Company, have contributed to a positive outlook for the company. The stock has gained 5.2% since the earnings announcement, currently trading at $130 per share.

He will take his final two mounts at La Teste racecourse near Bordeaux on Thursday before saying au revoir to his riding career. Peslier was the go-to man in big Group 1 races around the world in his pomp in the late 90s and early 2000s, steering the likes of High-Rise, Cockney Rebel and Goldikova to famous victories. He also rode four winners of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Europe’s most prestigious race. Paying tribute to Peslier, fellow jockey Frankie Dettori said: “He is one of the true greats of our sport. He has been a great rival and a great friend. I wish him all the best in his retirement.”
