The Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA), California Operation Lifesaver (CAOL), Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), Amtrak, and other rail partners joined forces to launch September as Rail Safety Month with a special safety train event in Oakland. Tarentum Borough Council has unanimously passed a resolution urging Norfolk Southern to address the growing number of potholes at the Corbet Street rail crossing. The crossing has become increasingly hazardous for vehicles and pedestrians, and the borough is calling on state officials to press for urgent repairs. Norfolk Southern has acknowledged the concerns and will inspect the crossing in the coming days to assess the necessary repairs.
