Defendant’s Speedy Trial Claim Denied in Flint Double Homicide Case

A Genesee County Circuit Court judge has rejected a defendant’s claim that his right to a speedy trial was violated in a double homicide case. Reggie Lay, 40, has been charged with 14 counts, including two counts of first-degree premeditated murder in connection with the 2019 deaths of Nolan Michael Thomas and Nicholas Scott Collins. Lay had argued that he had been jailed and awaiting trial for nearly five years, violating his constitutional rights. However, the judge ruled against Lay’s motion to dismiss the case.
