Rivian Secures $827 Million in Illinois Incentives for Next-Generation Electric Vehicle Production

Rivian has received a substantial $827 million incentive package from the State of Illinois to expand its electric vehicle production capabilities. The funding will be allocated to enhance Rivian’s existing factory in Normal, Illinois, bolster infrastructure, and enhance workforce training programs. The investment will facilitate the development and production of Rivian’s next-generation electric vehicle, the R2, which is scheduled to launch in 2026 with an estimated starting price of $45,000. Rivian’s decision to produce the R2 in Illinois instead of a previously planned $5 billion factory in Georgia will enable the company to accelerate its production timeline and reduce costs. Rivian remains committed to establishing a facility in Georgia but has adjusted its plans due to its ongoing financial losses and production challenges.
