Non-Prosecution Agreement for Russell Brunson after Idaho Wrestling Incident

Russell Brunson, an assistant coach at Rocky Mountain High School, entered a non-prosecution agreement with Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney Bryan Taylor, avoiding criminal charges stemming from an incident during a wrestling tournament in January. Brunson will not face jail time as long as he adheres to the terms of the agreement, which include a one-year ban from attending Idaho high school sporting events, a prohibition on coaching at the high school level, and a commitment to refrain from committing any new crimes. The incident, which occurred during a dual meet between Nyssa and Rocky Mountain High School, saw Brunson intervene in a match and strike a Nyssa wrestler multiple times, claiming he witnessed an illegal choke being applied. While the original investigation recommended charges of battery and injury-to-child misdemeanor, Brunson’s agreement with the prosecutor’s office resulted in no criminal prosecution.
