Far-Right German MEP Maximilian Krah Under Investigation for Alleged Foreign Payments

Prosecutors in Dresden, Germany, are investigating whether far-right MEP Maximilian Krah received payments from Russian and Chinese sources. The investigations come just a day after Krah’s aide was arrested on suspicion of spying for China. The public prosecutor in Dresden has confirmed that initial probes have been opened against Krah over allegations of illegal parliamentary bribery. Krah has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that he was unaware of the investigations. The investigations are based on media reports suggesting that Krah received payments from foreign powers, including messages in which pro-Russian activist Oleg Voloshyn assured Krah that compensation for his expenses had been solved. The second probe is investigating alleged Chinese payments for Krah’s role as a parliamentarian. Should the prosecutors establish a suspicion of wrongdoing, the preliminary investigations could lead to a formal investigation, but Krah’s parliamentary immunity would have to be lifted first.
