Sarawak’s efforts to gain UNESCO recognition for Niah Caves and develop the Sarawak Delta Geopark (SDGp) are expected to boost tourism in the region. The Niah Caves, located in Niah National Park, are in the final stages of being nominated as a World Archaeological Heritage site by UNESCO, with a decision expected in July 2024. The SDGp, spanning over 3,112 square kilometers, is also striving for UNESCO Global Geopark status. The region offers a rich blend of geological, biological, and cultural heritage, with 37 tourism packages centered around the SDGp and the Gawai Dayak celebration generating promising sales figures.
