The decision was made after reports of students and teachers fainting due to extreme heat. Delhi Schools Ordered to Close Amid Extreme Heatwave

Due to the severe heatwave conditions in Delhi, the government has directed all private and government schools to close down immediately for summer vacations. This directive comes despite clear orders that all schools must close from May 11 to June 30 for the summer break. The government has observed that some schools, particularly government-aided and unaided recognized private schools, are still open and has advised them to close for the summer vacation.

Additionally, schools are permitted to conduct classes for students of Class 9 and above only during the morning hours, between 7:00 AM and 11:30 AM.

As the Lok Sabha elections enter Phase 3 on May 7th, 94 constituencies across 12 states will cast their votes, including Karnataka. To ensure safety and facilitate smooth voting, key constituencies in Karnataka such as Chikkodi, Belgaum, and Bidar will temporarily close schools and colleges on election day. This precautionary measure aims to encourage voter participation without disruptions amidst heightened security concerns.
