Rutland Senior Secondary School’s Voodoo Team Name Erased Due to Racial Concerns

Rutland Senior Secondary School in Kelowna, British Columbia, has officially changed its sports team name from the Voodoos to the Thunder after concerns were raised over the original name’s racial implications. The school administration and students ultimately decided that the term “Voodoo” was no longer appropriate due to its historical association with slavery and oppression, despite its initial association with a Canadian warplane.
