Tambaram Corporation in Chennai has been actively combating illegal dumping of sewage, garbage, and construction debris. In the past four months, they have collected over 2 lakh in fines from 63 lorries caught violating regulations. The corporation has also implemented measures like licensing private sewage tankers and mandating GPS tracking to prevent such illegal activities.
Despite recent efforts by Metrowater to crack down on illegal sewage dumping in Chennai, the problem persists. A private sewage tanker was caught on camera dumping raw sewage into a drain connected to the Cooum River, highlighting the ongoing issue and lack of enforcement. While authorities acknowledge the problem and promise action, residents and environmental groups are calling for stronger measures to prevent this illegal and harmful practice.
