The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) to investigate allegations of land grabbing and sexual harassment in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. The FIR names five individuals, including the main accused Shahjahan Sheikh. The probe stems from a January 5 attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Sandeshkhali and the subsequent arrest of Sheikh. Former Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Narsingh Pancham Yadav has been elected chairman of the Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) Athletes’ Commission. The formation of the commission was mandated by United World Wrestling (UWW), the international body for the sport. Yadav’s election follows the suspension of the WFI last year after wrestlers accused its former president of sexual harassment. The WFI held fresh elections in December, and Yadav was elected as the commission’s chairman by the seven members elected from a pool of eight candidates. The commission’s primary responsibility will be to address wrestlers’ grievances.
