Shishkin, the talented gelding trained by Nicky Henderson, has sadly passed away due to an injury sustained in his stable. Henderson has expressed his deep sorrow, describing it as a tragic loss. During his hurdling career, Shishkin’s star shone brightly, culminating in a memorable Supreme Novices’ Hurdle victory at Cheltenham in 2020. His success continued as a chaser, amassing seven consecutive wins, including the Arkle, Maghull, and Desert Orchid Chase. Despite an impressive 10-race winning streak, Shishkin’s run of victories eventually came to an end. However, he continued to showcase flashes of brilliance, winning the Ascot Chase by 16 lengths and the Bowl at Aintree when stepping up in trip. In his final race at Newbury, Shishkin secured a victory in the Denman Chase. A bid for the Cheltenham Gold Cup was unfortunately thwarted due to a poor scope, and he finished fourth at Aintree earlier this month. Shishkin’s untimely demise has left a void in the racing world, with Henderson expressing his admiration for the popular horse and his remarkable achievements.
