The Supreme Court of India has granted Malayalam actor Siddique interim protection from arrest in a rape case filed against him. This comes after a report by the Justice Hema Commission detailed instances of abuse and harassment faced by actresses in the Malayalam film industry.
Malayalam actor Siddique has been issued an arrest warrant by the Kerala Police in connection with a sexual assault allegation stemming from the Malayalam cinema #MeToo movement. The warrant comes after the High Court dismissed Siddique’s bail plea in a rape case filed by a former actress. The alleged assault occurred in 2016, and the victim came forward after the Hema Committee report was released.
Malayalam film actor Siddique has filed a police complaint against actress Revathy Sampath after she accused him of sexual harassment. Sampath alleges that Siddique sexually abused her both physically and mentally when she was 21 years old, claiming the incident occurred during a film discussion. Siddique has denied the allegations and resigned from his position as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
