Epic Games has introduced a new setting in Fortnite that allows players to block certain emotes deemed “confrontational.” The updated version, v29.30, includes the ‘Confrontational Emotes’ setting that lets users toggle visibility on four emotes: Laugh It Up, Take the L, Whipcrack, and Make It Plantain. Players who choose to hide these emotes will see a player standing still with no sound instead of the emote animation. Epic explained the decision, stating that while emotes should promote positive interactions, some can be perceived as confrontational. The setting is found under ‘Social Privacy’ and defaults to displaying these emotes only from friends in the player’s party. However, it can be adjusted to show or hide emotes from all players. The move has sparked mixed reactions within the Fortnite community, with some expressing disbelief and others defending the decision. Epic has not yet addressed the issue of potential refunds for players who purchased these emotes with the intention of trolling others.
