Cape Town Port Ranks Worst Globally, Exposing Challenges in South Africa’s Port Infrastructure

Global rankings have revealed the poor performance of South African ports, with Cape Town’s port being ranked the worst among 405 ports worldwide. This ranking underscores significant operational challenges and competitiveness issues. The Port of Ngqura in the Eastern Cape also faces similar issues, while Durban, the country’s largest port, is ranked 399th. Despite the negative ranking in container shipping, Cape Town remains a renowned destination for cruise tourism, with its picturesque waterfront and iconic landmarks attracting cruise liners and tourists. Investing in port infrastructure not only enhances trade but also bolsters the city’s appeal as a cruise destination.
