Lone ‘Splatoon’ Player Continues Online Odyssey Despite Nintendo’s Shutdown

On April 23, 2023, Nintendo officially shut down online services for the Wii U and 3DS consoles. However, one determined ‘Splatoon’ player, known as Lcd101, has managed to stay online despite the shutdown. For 15 days, Lcd101 remained connected to the Nintendo Network, exploring deserted lobbies and witnessing the continued operation of in-game news updates. While Lcd101’s lone online presence may seem like a curious anomaly, it highlights the efforts of dedicated fans to preserve and keep alive beloved games even after official support has been discontinued.

Splatoon and Wii Sports Club Holdouts Remain Online Despite Server Closure

Fifteen days after Nintendo’s servers for the Wii U and 3DS were scheduled to shut down, two players remain online in Splatoon and Wii Sports Club. The last remaining Splatoon player has been holding fast despite the lack of matchmaking, while the Wii Sports Club player has been discovered joining online lobbies. These holdouts join other players who are still hanging on in Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 7, Mario Maker, and Pokemon XY.
