Volleyball Australia Apologizes for ‘Culture of Fear’ and Abuse in Women’s Team

Volleyball Australia has issued a public apology for creating a toxic environment that led to self-harm and substance abuse among female players between 1997 and 2005. The apology follows a review by Sport Integrity Australia, which found a ‘culture of fear and punishment’, lack of coach accountability, and limited athlete support. Former athletes described harsh training, body shaming, and verbal abuse, highlighting the lasting negative effects on their lives.
