Wilmar Paredes of Team Medellín secured a dominant victory in the opening stage of the Tour of the Gila, conquering the challenging climb up Mogollon Road Race. Redlands Bicycle Classic champion Tyler Stites (Project Echelon Racing) came in second, followed by Paredes’ teammate Walter Vargas in third. Team Medellín’s dominance was evident with Oscar Sevilla finishing just behind fourth-placed Heiner Para (Canel’s-Java).
Dorian Godon of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale won stage 1 of the Tour de Romandie 2024, a 165.7km race from Château d’Oex to Fribourg. Godon, who finished fourth in the previous day’s prologue, started the day just a fraction of a second down in the overall classification. He now leads the race six seconds ahead of Gianni Vermeersch and nine seconds ahead of Julian Alaphilippe. In the bunch sprint, Godon took advantage of the slim gaps created by the other riders and carried his sprint across the finish line to take the win and the overall leader’s jersey. Andrea Vendrame of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale followed Godon across the line in second place, while Vermeersch of Alpecin-Deceuninck finished in third place.
