Stockton School Board Member Denied Remote Appearance Despite State Law

A former Stockton Unified School District board president, AngelAnn Flores, was denied the opportunity to appear remotely at the board of trustees’ regular meeting on Monday. Flores’ attorney argued that the denial violated state law (AB 2449) and was an attempt to suppress Flores’ First Amendment rights. The school district, however, stated that Flores’ request failed to meet the required 72-hour notice under the Brown Act. Flores has been charged with embezzlement, theft of public funds, and insurance fraud and is scheduled to make her first court appearance on May 6.
