Under-Construction Bridge Collapses in Telangana, Miraculously Avoiding Casualties

An under-construction bridge in Peddapalli, Telangana, collapsed on Monday night after two of its concrete girders fell to the ground. The incident occurred due to strong winds, but thankfully, a marriage party traveling in a bus passed by just a minute before the collapse, narrowly escaping being crushed by the concrete. The bridge, which was inaugurated in 2016, has been under construction since then. The project, which aimed to connect three towns and shorten the distance between them by 50 km, was initially planned to be completed within a year. However, due to pressure for commissions and non-payment of dues by the government, the contractor halted the work within one or two years. The same contractor had previously constructed a bridge in Vemulawada that was washed away during heavy rain in 2021. The bridge’s collapse is being investigated, and the villagers have been utilizing the same path by constructing a mud road beneath the collapsed bridge for the past five years.
