Devarshi Deka, an Indian student studying at the University of Tasmania, was left with lifelong disabilities after an alleged assault last year. Despite regaining consciousness after three and a half months in a medically induced coma, he now has a severe brain injury, impaired vision, and is unable to use his legs. As an overseas student, Deka is not eligible for government support, and his ongoing care will require specialized equipment and assistance that his family cannot afford. His friends are appealing to the government for financial help to provide Deka with the necessary care in Hobart.
