Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports is preparing a new stimulus package to boost local tourism, including a 50% subsidy for domestic travel and new regulations to curb revenue leakage through foreign online travel agents (OTAs). The initiative aims to retain more economic benefits within the country by promoting local businesses and minimizing the influence of international platforms.

Tamil Nadu Government Announces Slight Electricity Tariff Hike, Subsidizing Residential Consumers

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a 2.18% increase in electricity tariffs, effective from July 1st, 2023. This hike, approved by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC), is intended to offset the financial losses incurred by the state’s power distribution company, TANGEDCO. However, the government has committed to fully subsidizing the increase for residential consumers, ensuring no additional burden on households. This move comes amid rising electricity costs and concerns about TANGEDCO’s financial stability, which has accumulated significant debt over the past decade.
