The historic Sakkarbaug zoo in Junagadh, Gujarat, is providing frozen fruit treats to its animals to keep them cool and entertained during the rising summer temperatures. The fruits, mixed with honey and ORS supplements, are placed within the animal enclosures, encouraging them to climb, play, and enjoy their treats. The zoo’s summer diet plan, prescribed by veterinary doctors, includes these frozen treats for sloth bears, Himalayan bears, marmosets, and hippos, with over 150kg of fruits being brought in daily. In addition, chilled fruits are provided to hippos, while large ice cubes and artificial ponds are provided for tigers, leopards, and lions.
