Nilesh Kumbhani, the Congress candidate for the Surat Lok Sabha seat, has been suspended from the party for six years after his nomination form was rejected due to alleged discrepancies. Kumbhani’s nomination was canceled after he failed to produce any of his three proposers before the election officer after discrepancies were found in their signatures. The BJP had raised questions about the discrepancies in the signatures of three proposers in Kumbhani’s nomination form. The nomination form of Suresh Padsala, the Congress’ substitute candidate from Surat, was also invalidated. The other eight candidates for the seat also withdrew their nominations, leading to Mukesh Dalal winning the seat.

Congress Candidate Goes Missing After Nomination Rejection in Surat Lok Sabha Seat

The Congress candidate for the Surat Lok Sabha seat, Nilesh Kumbhani, has gone missing after his nomination papers were rejected on technical grounds, prompting protests by party workers outside his residence. The BJP’s Mukesh Dalal was declared the winner after the remaining candidates withdrew their nomination papers. Congress workers have accused Kumbhani of being a ‘traitor’ and ‘murderer of democracy’ and have pasted posters at his gate calling him ‘janta ka gaddar’ (people’s traitor). The party has approached the Election Commission seeking its intervention and has asked the poll body to use powers under Article 324 to restore Kumbhani’s candidature or accept the nomination of the backup candidate, Suresh Padsala.

BJP’s Mukesh Dalal Wins Surat Lok Sabha Seat Uncontested Amid Controversy

Mukesh Dalal of the BJP has been declared elected uncontested from the Surat Lok Sabha seat after all eight remaining candidates withdrew their nominations. This is a rare occurrence in Indian elections, with only 23 such instances since Independence. The withdrawal of candidates has raised allegations of pressure from the BJP, with the BSP claiming its nominee was pressured to withdraw. Meanwhile, the Congress has moved the Election Commission seeking to postpone elections on the seat, alleging the cancellation of its candidate’s nomination was unjust.
