Heatwave Grips Uttar Pradesh, Light Showers Offer Brief Relief

Uttar Pradesh continues to battle a relentless heatwave, as temperatures soar past 40 degrees Celsius. While some areas found temporary relief from late afternoon showers on Tuesday, others like Bundelkhand endure oppressive heat that disrupts daily life and confines residents indoors. The extreme heat has particularly affected schoolchildren, with temperatures in Gorakhpur reaching a staggering 41.5 degrees Celsius by 11:00 am. Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 39.6 degrees Celsius, while other cities like Bulandshahr, Prayagraj, and Varanasi also experienced extreme heat. The state Met department has issued a heatwave warning for the coming days, with dry hot winds expected to exacerbate the situation.

Mumbai Heatwave: Temperatures Set to Soar Over 37 Degrees

Mumbai’s respite from humid conditions is short-lived, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts another surge in temperatures to over 37 degrees Celsius this weekend. The city is likely to witness a gradual increase in temperatures from Saturday, potentially reaching 39 degrees Celsius by Monday, close to another heatwave. Despite these extreme conditions, no heatwave warning has been issued yet by IMD, as a heatwave alert is triggered only when temperatures exceed 37 degrees for two consecutive days in coastal areas or 40 degrees in interior regions. This spike follows a record-breaking heatwave last week, where temperatures hit 39.7 degrees on April 16, marking the hottest April day in Mumbai in over a decade.

Tiruchi and Neighboring Districts Scorch Under Heat Wave Conditions

Residents of Tiruchi and its neighboring districts are facing extreme heat as temperatures have soared above 41 degrees Celsius. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which is still significantly higher than the normal temperature for this time of year. Neighboring districts such as Karur, Perambalur, and Ariyalur have also been experiencing heat wave conditions with temperatures reaching over 41 degrees Celsius. This unusually hot weather has been attributed to high temperatures and humid conditions, and is expected to continue until April 27th according to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses.
