Ubisoft’s ‘The Rogue Prince of Persia’ Is the Perfect Successor to ‘Dead Cells’

Ubisoft has surprised gamers with the early access release of ‘The Rogue Prince of Persia,’ an action-platformer roguelike developed by Evil Empire. The game follows a prince who must fight the Huns throughout Persia after emboldening them to attack. With gameplay similar to ‘Dead Cells’ but with its own unique tweaks, ‘The Rogue Prince of Persia’ offers a thrilling and challenging experience. While still in early access, the game has six biomes, two boss fights, and a variety of weapons, tools, and trinkets to collect. However, content offering and progression could be improved to enhance the overall experience.

Evil Empire Sheds Light on The Rogue Prince of Persia’s Genesis

Evil Empire, the developer behind The Rogue Prince of Persia, provides an intriguing backstory on the game’s conception. The project emerged through a chance encounter at GDC, where the team pitched their vision for a 2D action platformer Prince of Persia game to Ubisoft. Despite having a smaller team, the developers emphasize that The Rogue Prince of Persia is a distinct entity, not a reskin of Dead Cells. It draws inspiration from modern Prince of Persia entries, focusing on fluid acrobatics and fast-paced combat. Launching in Early Access on Steam next month, the game aims to evolve through community feedback, a strategy that has proven successful for indie games like Dead Cells and Hades.
