Dead Boy Detectives’ Move From Max to Netflix: Showrunner Explains

After being initially developed at Max, the horror comedy series ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ has now made the switch to Netflix. The move allows for the show to incorporate references to ‘The Sandman’ due to both series being based on comic books by Neil Gaiman. Despite initial plans to connect the two shows directly, legal reasons prevented the use of ‘Sandman’ IP. However, Netflix’s greenlighting of the ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ series gave the showrunners the opportunity to create a shared universe and incorporate Easter eggs and crossover elements with ‘The Sandman’.

The Sandman Universe Gets Bigger with ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ TV Series

The world of Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Sandman’ is expanding with a new spin-off series focused on the ghost teens Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland. Introduced in the ‘Season of the Mists’ storyline, these amateur undead private eyes have been reimagined over the decades but remain constant in their mission to solve mysteries for the living. The upcoming Netflix series, set to premiere on April 25, promises to explore new offbeat adventures while paying homage to the comics. Fans can expect familiar faces like Death and Hob Gadling, but the series will also feature other characters from the ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ mythology, introducing new lore and reinterpreting characters from the comics.
