A24 to Rerelease ‘X’ in Theaters for One Night Only

A24 is giving moviegoers a chance to revisit the first installment of Ti West’s slasher trilogy, ‘X,’ before the highly anticipated sequel, ‘MaXXXine,’ arrives this summer. On June 18, ‘X’ will return to theaters for one night only, offering audiences a sneak peek of ‘MaXXXine’ in a special post-credits preview.

‘X’ premiered in March 2022, grossing over $15 million at the box office against a modest budget of $1 million. The film follows a group of young actors and filmmakers in 1979 who attempt to shoot an adult movie at a farmhouse in rural Texas. However, their porn shoot takes a deadly turn when the elderly couple who owns the farm begins murdering the unsuspecting guests.

Shortly after ‘X’s release, West revealed that he had secretly shot a prequel film, ‘Pearl,’ which also stars Mia Goth. Set in 1918, ‘Pearl’ explores the origins of the elderly homicidal homeowner character from ‘X.’ Pearl dreams of becoming a film star, but her psychopathic tendencies hinder her aspirations.

The third and final film in West’s trilogy, ‘MaXXXine,’ is the direct sequel to ‘X.’ Set in 1985, the film follows Maxine (Goth) as she tries to make it as an actress in Los Angeles. However, her dreams are threatened when the Night Stalker begins targeting young female stars, including Maxine.

Tickets for ‘X’s June 18 rerelease are now on sale at Fandango. The screenings will begin at 7 p.m. local time.
