Jackson Man Charged with Assault by Auto After Toms River Crash

Erick Perez-Ramirez, 40, of Jackson, has been charged with two counts of assault by auto after crashing a vehicle in Toms River on April 20, injuring two passengers. Perez-Ramirez allegedly lost control of the vehicle while making a right turn and struck a tree. A 33-year-old female passenger in the front seat and a 33-year-old female passenger in the back seat were transported to a local hospital for injuries and are listed in stable condition. Perez-Ramirez and a 31-year-old male passenger in the back seat were not injured. Responding officers believed Perez-Ramirez was intoxicated and administered field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. The results of a blood draw are pending. Perez-Ramirez is lodged at Ocean County Jail, where he is waiting for a detention hearing.
